Artist Missions

Even for a group united by a clear, singular objective, like San Marcos’ defunct slap-happy disco-rockers Clap!Clap!, it can be hard keeping the band together—particularly when that band is a sprawling, 10-person-strong, mobile danceteria. Fortunately, Clap!Clap!’s Planet Rock has splintered into several orbiting satellites with their own spins on sexed-up electro, chief among them frontman Josh Mills’ Missions. Paired with DJ Markus With A K and Slowreader’s Amber Zook, Mills eschews his former band’s boundless enthusiasm—and all acoustic instruments—for a spacey, fully synth-driven sound draped in dark dance textures reminiscent of both ’80s pioneers like Chris And Cosey and Depeche Mode, as well as more recent revivalists like The Knife and Fischerspooner.
