They say you should dress for the job you want, not the job you have. With Austin’s Mobley—who changed its name from Mowgli last year, possibly to avoid any Disney lawsuits/association with the hellspawn of Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson—that goes for more than just the trio’s tendency to wear natty vests and ties. The band’s sound is pure 21st-century Britpop, all keening vocals and huge layers of gauzy guitars, piano, and the occasional string section, backed by an ambitious light show that belies its typically humble opening gigs. Maybe it’s time for a promotion.
