Moby
Moby has flitted through so many styles and moods in the past few years that it’s hard to figure which one of them is his default mode. Is he, at heart, a rave DJ? A gospel resurrector? A Mission Of Burma-minded rocker? A melancholic with a loungey singer-songwriter yen? He’s actually just all of those, and all for the better. Latter-day Moby albums have not always fared particularly well, but he always gets points for trying. The musician is currently touring behind Destroyed, his 10th studio album, which came with an accompanying photo book and was released earlier this year. And now that R.E.M. has split up, this is the closest you’ll get to seeing a guy who kind-of looks like Michael Stipe perform music live. Until you inevitably see a guy who kind-of looks like Michael Stipe playing an open-mic acoustic set in Nowheresville, U.S.A. and are like, “Hey, that guy kind-of looks like Michael Stipe,” except it is Michael Stipe.
