Artist Moderat

Moderat is a collaborative duo featuring two biggies from the realm of German techno: Modeselektor and Apparat. Both haunt the Bpitch Control label run by Ellen Allien, and both aren’t especially well-served by the “techno” label without lots of extra qualifiers and caveats. Apparat especially has an ear for melody and song that made his 2007 album Walls much-loved, and Modeselektor is all over the place, frantically flailing between dancehall and electro dirges (including a song sung by a sympathetic Thom Yorke). The new self-titled Moderat album makes good on the collaborative nature of the enterprise, so expect something worked out here.
