Artist Mortified

Everyone has embarrassing high-school journals (or diaries, if you’re a lady), but not everyone has the balls (or ovaries) to read them aloud to a room full of strangers. That’s exactly what Mortified has been doing since founder Dave Nadelberg started the project in the late ’90s. It’s since spawned a pair of books, the most recent of which is 2008’s relationship-centered Mortified: Love Is A Battlefield, as well as a many, many iterations of live shows by real-life locals at peace with their cringe-inducing, impossibly awkward adolescence. Your teen years might have passed, but you can relive others’. Or your own—submissions are always being accepted, so crack out your old spiral-bound confessor for consideration.
