Artist Mr. Dibbs

  • Dan Monick

Cincinnati-bred turntablist Brad “Mr. Dibbs” Forste often tours with Atmosphere and El-P, though he’s created some sideways-looking cut-and-paste albums on his own, including 2003’s sprawling The 30th Song. While clearly beholden to the nerdy, genre-splicing end of the hip-hop spectrum—he’s also appeared on recordings by cLOUDEAD and Sage Francis—Dibbs uses his autodidact virtuosity to whip up symphonies of scratches that still manage to pay homage to his early heroes, Herbie Hancock and Grandmaster Flash. He also has a healthy propensity to fuck with people, judging by the raving Denis Leary sample that kicks off his 2007 mix Eat Meat 2, and the title of 2009's Bigfoot's Dick, a free collaboration with MC Dezmatic.
