Muppet Treasure Island

Muppet Treasure Island

Based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, the 1996 Muppet adaption stays true to the source material—as true as it can with flopping, life-size puppets as cast members anyway. The young Jim Hawkins (Kevin Bishop) inherits a coveted treasure map, and—after his friends Gonzo and Rizzo accidentally set fire to the inn where all three work—Hawkins and company set sail in search of untold riches. They end up on the Hispaniola, a ship helmed by Kermit The Frog's Captain Smollet, where they fight off both pirates and greedy, two-faced crewmen. Directed by Jim Henson’s son Brian, the film includes the usual musical numbers and Muppet-y humor, as well as an ever-salacious performance by Tim Curry as the dastardly Long John Silver.
