A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Mutemath

Mutemath is a more restless band than the windy hooks of its 2007 single "Typical" might suggest. Sure, at times the band can sound like another polished bunch of young U2 worshippers; but then again, its self-titled debut album explores a few wiggy, ambient synth and vocal sounds on Warner Brothers' dime. This year's follow-up, Armistice, expands on that admirable quality, alternately building catchy songs from dissonant elements and searching for another bombastic hit. Mutemath's still not the most distinctive thing out there, but the band's healthy curiosity counts for a lot.
