Matt Valentine and Erika Elder—a.k.a. MV & EE—play sprawling, freaky folk with a prominent experimental streak. Their “lunar ragas” found a fan in Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, who signed the group to his Ecstatic Peace! label. He also hailed the group’s 2006 debut, Green Blues, as an “already classic,” which counts for something still. Relentlessly prolific, MV & EE’s output numbers in the dozens, including 2009’s Barn Nova, a rocking release that evokes Neil Young in his muscular mode.
