Artist My Teenage Stride
As the main creative force behind My Teenage Stride, singer and guitarist Jedidiah Smith has a self-conscious charisma that colors his band’s songs—whether live or recorded—and gives them the kind of ironic depth that results when such pretty pop music includes an element of pessimism. The band has spent 2009 releasing a series of digital singles. The best of them—like the finely crafted, aching “Creep Academy” or “Theme From Teenage Suicide”—recall forebears The Cure or contemporaries The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart while still sounding fresh.
