Artist Myka 9

Los Angeles MC Michael Troy (a.k.a. Myka 9) is one of the unsung heroes of West Coast hip-hop. First emerging in the mid-'80s as Microphone Mike, he ghostwrote tracks on N.W.A.'s N.W.A. And The Posse before helping to co-found pioneering jazz-rap crew Freestyle Fellowship. His post-Fellowship solo career hasn't proven as prominent as that of frequent collaborator Aceyalone, but nearly two decades after that group broke through with Inner City Griots, Myka 9's melodic flow and stream-of-consciousness rhymes have carved him a respectable niche in the West Coast underground.
