Natalia Zukerman
Natalia Zukerman may not have the grittiest voice on the acoustic singer-songwriter circuit, but the real range is in her guitar work. She’s handy with a slide and a dobro, bringing equal grace to bottleneck blues riffs and flickering folk-jazz melodies. So who better to co-produce her most recent album, Gas Station Roses, than Willy Porter, another gentle soul who knows his way around a guitar? Porter tastefully figures some drums and keys into Zukerman’s sound, as if acknowledging that she’s just as good when left with just voice and guitar, although plenty of good cameos from Patty Larkin, Garrison Starr, and Maghan Toohey of The Weepies doesn’t hurt either.
