Nathan Rabin
Nathan Rabin pours a hell of a lot of life into The A.V. Club, juggling roles as film critic, resident hip-hop pulse-taker, and a blogger on such subjects as “silly little showbiz books” and getting introduced to country music. Recently he’s added a new title to his resume: author. Last year he released his first book, The Big Rewind: A Memoir Brought To You By Pop Culture, which covered Rabin’s life from his troubled childhood in group homes, to his college days as a video-store clerk and scribe at a scrappy little satirical paper, to a stint as a TV film critic and scribe at the scrappy, now larger, satirical paper. Now he’s back with My Year Of Flops, which compiles the best selections from his popular A.V. Club column delving into the dark heart of cinematic failure. The book also features interviews with bad-movie luminaries like Wallace Shawn, Richard Dreyfuss, and Roberto Benigni.
