Artist Native

Native hails from Valparaiso, Ind., a city on the outskirts of the Chicago suburbs shaped by the steel industry and a namesake Lutheran university. That tension between the working-class ethos and the pursuit of higher learning is seemingly at the core of Native’s mathematical tangle, a highly technical post-hardcore sound that damns The Man through frantic, interlocking rhythms, slippery tempos, and bassist-vocalist Bobby Markos’ Guy Picciotto bleat. Neither comfortable with the metronomic pounding of the factory nor content with a scholarly life, the band thrashes back and forth between the two.
