Neil Young

Neil Young

Neil Young fortified his status as one of the finest singer-songwriters in rock history a long time ago, so he gets a pass for some of the clumsily written numbers he’s been road-testing on his current solo tour. Whether forgettable songs from his Daniel Lanois-produced Le Noise, like “You Never Call” and “Love And War,” will rear their heads now that they’ve been laid to wax remains to be seen, but fans of Young’s prime-era ’70s material will be glad to know that the 65-year-old still sounds great on classic cuts like “Helpless” and “Down By The River,” moving freely between acoustic and electric guitar, and piano. If you ask really nicely, he might even play “Heart Of Gold.”
