Nekromantix
Psychobilly is predicated on well-worn obsessions with the dead and undead, but Nekromantix frontman Kim Nekroman was the first to channel those predispositions through an upright bass shaped like a coffin. Though the ranks of the musicians backing Nekroman have been fluid since the frontman left his native Denmark for Los Angeles in the mid ’00s, he hasn’t messed much with the group’s musical formula since 1989’s Hellbound. On the new What Happens In Hell Stays In Hell, the trunk of the Nekros-mobile is still filled with lyrical images cribbed from back issues of Famous Monsters Of Filmland and splattered with spy-movie guitar, while the engine still beats out the locomotive chug forged by Nekroman’s bass and metal-edged timekeeper Lux Drummerette.
