Succinctly articulating Netherfriends is no easy feat. The Chicago collective is a musical chameleon of sorts, though masterfully schooled in the kind of oddball, lurching loops not so perfectly crafted since Menomena’s Friend And Foe. Fans of that band should find plenty to love in Netherfriends, who have only been picking up more steam since the release of 2009’s six-song EP Calling You Out. In 2010, in addition to their LP, Barry And Sherry, Netherfriends embarked on a self-proposed “50 Songs 50 States” project, which they finished last year. Middle America, the first album to come from the intensive project, is available now on iTunes, as a cassette tape, and as a limited-edition digital download packaged with a wooden postcard.
