No Age
Sporting just as much pop as arty distortion, No Age’s music has attracted a lot of different ears since the duo started making an attractive racket five years ago. On their debut full-length, 2008’s Nouns,drummer-vocalist Dean Spunt and guitarist Randy Randall played strongly sticky songs that earned them comparisons to Sonic Youth and Hüsker Dü. Experiments with loops and distortion continue on the recent follow-up album, Everything In Between, but there’s also more of a focus on Spunt’s vocals than in the past, making those incidental sound washes seem more song-like. It’s one thing to hear No Age on record, but another thing altogether to take in the volume live.
