Nosferatu The Vampyre
Werner Herzog’s 1979 film Nosferatu The Vampyre has never quite gotten the respect it deserves, though it’s been buoyed by a significant cult following over the years. A remake of/homage to the Murnau classic, Nosferatu nicely blends its director’s sensibility with that of its inspiration. Stepping in for Max Schreck as the ghoulish Count Dracula, Klaus Kinski takes the wide-eyed, lonely mania of Aguirre, The Wrath Of God to its logical extreme, making for one of the most demented, creepy vampire portrayals in a genre that’s had its share.
