Obits
From a San Diego punk landmark comes yet another slice of guitar-rock might. Four years after San Diego’s Hot Snakes called it quits, singer-guitarist Rick Froberg (late of Hot Snakes and Drive Like Jehu) returned to helm the Brooklyn four-piece Obits, sounding as energized as ever on its 2009 Sub Pop debut, I Blame You. The fact remains, though, that Obits sounds a hell of a lot like the bands that made Froberg so loved by angry nerds worldwide. Of course, that’s a good thing—especially when guitarist Sohrab Habibion of the underrated ’90s post-hardcore outfit Edsel is along for the ride. The band’s latest, Moody, Standard And Poor, was released on Sub Pop this year.
