Obituary
It’s been more than a decade since the Florida-based group gave up the ghost, but if there’s band that can credibly come back to life, it’s a death-metal act called Obituary. After an impromptu Ozzfest reunion led to 2005’s comeback album Frozen In Time, the band re-established its position as a leading darkness of death metal. Out now behind its third album since reuniting—2009’s Darkest Day—the record finds Obituary extending its reputation as the most diverse of Tampa’s death-metal pioneers, breaking from the breakneck pack to explore swampier, downtempo territory, while the melodic soloing of shredder Ralph Santolla lends a technical edge that cuts above the drop-D churn.
