Omar-S is a producer from the contemporary realm of Detroit techno that draws on mechanism as well as soul—lots of soul. His dance tracks bang, to be sure, but they also boast a woozy, hazy quality that signals his kinship with the more house-oriented sounds of fellow Detroit artists like Moodymann and Theo Parrish. Omar-S made a big move in 2009 with a Fabric DJ mix-disc that draws exclusively on his own work, and his sets have a way of sounding like him and him only.
