It's only been a year since the Chicago-based DJ-production team Only Children released its debut remix—a bass-pulsed, beat-heavy overhaul of Hey Champ's "Cold Dust Girl." Since then, the collective of Dino Balocchi, Chris Baronner, Jesse Hozeny, and Mcrae Reed has taken its live set on the road, not to mention pumping out some sparse, bottom-ended reworkings of everything from Prince's "When Doves Cry" to The Brothers Johnson's "Stomp." Only Children's drooling adoration of vintage funk far outweighs its faint electro leanings, but it still manages to sneak the most subliminal of Giorgio Moroder accents into a slippery remix of Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall." And while the group is definitely indie-oriented and DFA-influenced, there's a refreshingly slick, even sculpted polish to its party-ready mixes.
