Artist Optometri

An extensive back story positioning the members of Madison’s Optometri as Russian emigrants and once-popular musicians in their homeland makes for almost as much fun as some of the more ridiculous parts of the band’s music. But some theatrics make songs like “Love Is Not A Potato,” off the 2009 album of the same name, and lyrics like “One of them is a tuber that grows in the ground / the other is a feeling that makes you act like a clown,” come across as very intentionally humorous. But lest you think Optometri is just making fun of Russian culture, note that “Love is not a potato; you can’t just throw it out the window” is an actual Russian proverb.
