Orgone

You almost never hear a crust punk band described as “many souls with a cosmic connection,” so maybe it’s the spacey vibe associated with some funk bands, like L.A.’s Orgone, that drove the band to adopt the name of a pseudoscience theory on universal life force. Regardless of whether the band members’ connection is written in the stars, it’s hard to deny how seamlessly these musicians combine their efforts on “It’s What You Do” off one of the two full-lengths the band dropped in 2010, Cali Fever (with the other being Killion Vaults). Stirring equal measures of Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat and Booker T. And The MGs’ ultra-smooth funk, Orgone’s live soul-sample sound has translated into runs as backup band to hip-hop artists like Bun B and Pharoahe Monch.
