Artist Outlaw Nation

  • Outlaw Nation

Setting hip-hop rhythms to reggae’s syncopated upbeat, Outlaw Nation makes a genre-bending, Sublime-inspired sound that seemingly skanks outward from the Pacific coast. But the band’s sinsemilla smoke signal actually originates from Louisiana, where the trio has cultivated a good-vibes, beach-party-ready repertoire that would be relentlessly optimistic were it not for an occasional brokenhearted detour into lovers’ rock balladry. With cameos by members of Slightly Stoopid, Fishbone, and The English Beat, Outlaw Nation’s 2009 full-length, New Day, places it squarely between the ska and “brah” demographics. The band’s 2011 follow-up continues the same dynamic.
