Ozomatli

Fans of polyrhythmic, polyglot party band Ozomatli take their heroes very seriously. That’s as it should be: For over a decade and a half, no one has mixed progressive politics, Latin jazz, hip-hop, funk, and rock en Español (and English) quite like Ozomatli. With track after track that takes Ozo’s Black Eyed Peas-meets-Santana sound in its most polished, radio-friendly direction, 2007’s Don’t Mess With The Dragon is a crowd-pleaser; but the group’s real accomplishment is 2010’s Fire Away, a haywire album helmed by famed producer Tony Berg, whose work with X, Public Image Ltd., and Squeeze favored Ozomatli’s live-in-the-studio approach.
