Patrick Wolf specializes in baroque electro-pop that almost redefines baroque (not to mention electro-pop). The London-based singer’s new fourth album, The Bachelor, boasts a kitchen-sink sensibility that’s always interesting, sometimes over-the-top, and occasionally very beautiful, with elaborately orchestrated compositions that veer from folk to dance music to straightforward rock ’n’ roll. The only common thread is a total disdain for minimalism, which makes Wolf’s music the sonic equivalent of a corkscrew-laden roller coaster—disorienting, but a lot of fun.
