Peter Bjorn And John
Peter Bjorn And John burst onto the scene in 2006 with the ubiquitous, whistle-driven pop anthem “Young Folks.” Though that inescapable earworm continues to haunt commercials and the occasional TV soap, the Swedish trio has happily moved on to more experimental pastures. 2008’s Seaside Rockmay have gone a little too far with subverting audience expectations—it featured a mixed bag of instrumental tracks, spoken-word monologues (in three Swedish dialects, no less), and disparate influences from calypso to krautrock—but it may have been a necessary curve ball. The new Gimme Some splits that difference, offering a breezy collection of genre impersonations and light-hearted pop in a style that very much suits them, even if the substance is a little lacking.
