Artist Phantom Of The Opera (1925)

Gaston Leroux’s novel The Phantom Of The Operahas survived countless translations, from cinema to stage and back again, but the 1925 film starring Lon Chaney remains the version that defines all successors. Chaney plays a deformed music lover who stalks the dungeons of the Paris Opera House and falls in love with ingénue Mary Philbin. His expressive performance and grotesque appearance put a stamp of personal obsession on an already obsessive character.
