Whether Travis Egedy, a.k.a. Pictureplane, is playing in front of three people in an awkward art gallery or to a crowd of devoted fans in a club, he never holds back. The DJ and artist is a Rubik’s Cube of creative intensity, making each of his shows a crapshoot. By his own accord, live performances may entail winding himself up in Saran Wrap, lip syncing to Madonna, or dancing to his own beats from behind a synthesizer. In 2009, New York label Lovepump United released Pictureplane’s Dark Rift. The album was well-received critically, and since then, Egedy’s released a series of intriguing mix-tapes, had his tunes covered by label and tourmates HEALTH, and continued to make a splash with his noisy, chaotic take on dance music.
