Pinback

A duo which values subtlety and consistency above all else, Pinback has produced a steady stream of similar-sounding albums since getting together in the ’90s. That’s not a criticism: Everything from 1999’s This Is A Pinback CD through 2007’s Autumn Of The Seraphs has been a uniformly enjoyable collection of occasionally funky, typically pretty, intricately precise pop hiding cleverly self-deprecating turns of phrase beneath its deceptively light veneer. That Zach Smith and Rob Crow are still writing songs worth listening to without forcing themselves to find new ways to do so is actually pretty commendable—and it certainly bodes well for its next release, which is due out this fall and was teased by two 7-inches that came out last year.
