Polysics
Japanese group Polysics formed in 1997, releasing a steady stream of bouncy, retroactively robotic synth-pop discs that skirt much of the '80s revival of the '00s. With members in matching jumpsuits yelping over bleeping, blooping synthesizers, Polysics are clearly the product of Devo worship—though their 2009 album Absolute Polysics cuts paths through punk and new wave, more unhinged than even Devo's rawest days as performance artists. Its livewire intensity carries over to live shows, undercut by lots of jerkin' back-and-forth.
