Those who have never spent a winter in the gray urban environs of the American Midwest know not the joy of spring’s first sunny day, but Cincinnati’s Pomegranates certainly do. Even better, they manage to capture that sensation in the shimmering title track of their 2009 effort, Everybody Come Outside! It might be too fey for some, but if you can stomach the occasionally cloying vocal turn by multi-instrumentalist Joey Cook, you’ll find inviting swirls of shoegazer guitar and a slithering, Talking Heads-derived sense of song structure within the band’s bursts of sunshine. The newly released follow-up, One Of Us, finds the band working a similar formula to good effect.
