Possessed of a laid-back, sleepy-eyed demeanor and an acumen for observing the ordinary-bordering-on-mundane, Prescott Tolk often gets words like “slacker” and “stoner” thrown at him—which mostly means he’s more comfortable talking about convenience stores and parking tickets than riffing on the economy. But don’t let Tolk’s “everyday people” vibe fool you: He’s actually a tireless worker, balancing stand-up with his comedy filmmaking group Blerds, nurturing fellow Chicago comedians through hosting open mics and workshops, and self-releasing his debut CD, I Can Complain, last year.
