Pro Arte Quartet
For fans of chamber music, having the Pro Arte Quartet as resident musicians at UW-Madison must be a dream, considering the ensemble’s nearly 100 years of existence and storied past. Once the court quartet for Queen Elizabeth of Belgium and test subjects for new material from composers like Arthur Honegger and Béla Bartók, the quartet wound up stuck in one of its many U.S. tours due to the outbreak of World War II. Shortly after, the group accepted the residency at UW, where it has since served, classing up the joint with its world-class performances, broadcasts, and education activities.
