Puerto Muerto

Chicago duo Tim Kelley and Christa Meyer comprise Puerto Muerto, a gritty, grimy alt-country band with Nick Cave-esque narratives set to menacing and macabre melodies. The group uses its newest record, Drumming For Pistols, to add searing guitar licks and a little punk brashness to the mix, but by and large stays the course with dark, foreboding basslines and cinematic themes. Honestly, Puerto Muerto is not much of an upper—Pistols’ title track tramples over listeners with vague calls for revolution, while the rest of the band’s repertoire seethes with murky, murderous overtones. It's a sound probably best swallowed with a shot of whiskey.
