Quintron And Miss Pussycat
Few acts are more worthy of the term “entertainer” than that of Quintron and partner Miss Pussycat, whose shows lace manic inspiration into blasts of lo-fi—even the recording of 2011’s Sucre Du Sauvage turned an installation space at the New Orleans Museum Of Art into a dance party. Quintron’s Jimmy Smith-meets-The Cramps sound is derived largely from his electrical wizardry: He’s been known to hot-rod ancient Hammond organs and create devices like the Drum Buddy, a primitive coffee-can-based percussion synthesizer. But Quintron’s sweaty, clothes-shedding showmanship is the real draw, and he’s complemented by Miss Pussycat’s cheerleader-like backing vocals and psychedelic puppet shows.
