Artist Rebelution

Their band name might imply that they lean toward reggae’s more politicized, angry side, but the Santa Barbara, California-based dudes in Rebelution are way more into beach-friendly, breezy tunes whose primary purpose is to get crowds moving and grooving. Blending reggae, a bit of rap, and jam-rock into a solid but awfully familiar sound, Rebelution has built up a solid fan base through grassroots word-of-mouth advertising and heavy touring. The 2009 album Bright Side Of Life, released on the band’s own 87 Records label, is buoyed by the group’s relentless, easygoing charm and positivity. The title isn’t a reference to the caustically sarcastic Monty Python song; it’s a simple and irony-free exhortation to be happy. The group plays here behind its newest album, Peace Of Mind, released in early 2012 on Controlled Substance Recordings.
