Artist Rebirth Brass Band

  • Rebirth Bass Band

New Orleans funk-jazz-rock nine-piece Rebirth Brass Band practically lives on the road, which helps explain the band’s popularity over the past quarter century. The group has spawned a documentary that analyzes its context in the New Orleans jazz-funeral tradition (2000’s Let Me Do My Thang: Rebirth Brass Band), but it’s better known for its hypnotic music and intoxicating live shows. Having long incorporated the varying jazz, blues, and gospel-derived musical styles that its hometown helped to form (or contort), the band has been dropping hints of The Big Easy’s influence on hip-hop since 2001’s Hot Venom. Lately it’s kept busy by lending its skills and Crescent City flair to David Simon’s post-Hurricane Katrina drama, Treme, and releasing this past summer’sRebirth Of New Orleans.
