Red Stick Ramblers
Louisiana's Red Stick Ramblers have wholeheartedly thrown themselves into a realm of roots music where a dedication to all things old-fashioned goes beyond a fault and yields a recharged mix of tradition and curiosity. The Ramblers' most recent album, 2009's My Suitcase Is Always Packed, holds on to all the well-worn elements of Cajun music, country, and swing—but without taking them for granted, and that's why this young band's good-natured gusto counts at least as much as its claim to authenticity. Chas Justus' guitar leads perfectly capture a hint of rockabilly (or whatever came just before it), and Linzay Young and Kevin Wimmer's dual fiddles make a constant callback to the spirit of Bob Wills.
