Rhys Darby

Anyone jonesing for the second coming of human soundboard Michael Winslow, look no further. Goofy New Zealander Rhys Darby has tons of sound effects in his arsenal. Fans of his deadpan work on Flight Of The Conchords are S.O.L., though. While Conchords flies above broad humor, Darby flies right into it. Even though his live work is a complete 180 from his television work, he’s still refreshingly self-aware of his lowbrow zaniness. He’ll open with a gracelessly implemented robot impression, only to point out its lack of necessity. Maybe his out-of-nowhere replication of a jet pack would lack charm if spewed out by a Yank, but Darby’s New Zealand charm sticks the landing.
