Barbados-born Rihanna has been through the wringer in the last few years, going from minor radio hit-maker to ubiquitous pop superstar with 2007’s multi-platinum Good Girl Gone Bad. But not even a track as ubiquitous as “Umbrella” could overshadow the singer’s 2009 assault at the hands of then-boyfriend Chris Brown. Rihanna bounced back later that year with Rated R, and while the dark, more mature material proved she’s no one to fuck with, she’s returned to her bright, sassy form with her latest, Loud.
