Artist Roy Haynes And Fountain Of Youth Quartet
In 60 years of drumming, Roy Haynes has cut himself out as an essential player in jazz history. He’s played with John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, and on and on, which pretty much makes him an integral part of the music’s evolution over the decades, and that in turn takes extraordinary flexibility and imagination. Haynes has also been putting out albums as a bandleader since the ’50s. As collected on 2007's four-disc A Life In Time: The Roy Haynes Story, his output under his own name parallels that evolution, spanning a number of formats and sounds that range from bop to the avant-garde. Haynes plays here with the Fountain Of Youth Band, a quartet with whom (under a slightly different lineup) he made 2006's Grammy-nominated album Whereas.
