Ruby Isle
Ruby Isle’s latest album, a song-for-song take on Guns N’ Roses’ 1987 classic, Appetite For Destruction, sounds more like a night spent twisted on Quaaludes at a Martian rave than one spent snake-dancing your way to Howard Hughes hermitdom. Mark Mallman’s electro-pop group retools GNR’s hard-rock masterpiece to soundtrack a space-age dance party. That kind of artistic revisionism would be disastrous in the hands of a less capable band, but lucky for Axl, the members of Ruby Isle know a thing or two about rock ’n’ roll decadence, and their Appetite For Destructionretains the spirit of booze-soaked debauchery and danger that endeared GNR to rockers the world over.
