Artist Rumer

The Guardian has compared British singer-songwriter Rumer’s voice to Karen Carpenter’s. And given that we equate Karen Carpenter’s melancholy, incomparably beautiful vocals with the singing voice of the angels on high, that’s a pretty lofty association. But it sticks. Former singer of the London indie-folk act La Honda (under the name Sarah Prentice), Rumer’s struck out on a successful solo career, with her 2010 debut, Seasons Of My Soul, slinking up the U.K. record charts. Her melodic, adult-contempo sound has earned her a fan in Burt Bacharach, who even wrote a few songs for her. It may not be edgy or revolutionary or loud, but it’s nice, dammit.
