Artist Rust Belt Sermon

For a few years now, Madison's hardcore-splattered Rust Belt Sermon hasn't played out all that much, and has put out just one four-song EP with the odd title Decay Encased In Photography. This year, the four-piece finally put out a full-length, Soliloquy, whose tracks prove RBS owes it to itself to make a bigger name among Madison's post-punk and metal bands. The band's gnarled-yet-tuneful guitars, sincerely mangled vocals, and grimy rhythm section capture the eerie beauty of an abandoned industrial wasteland, and, on tunes like "Intimately Oppressed," step up from math-rock noise to impressive heaviness. Rust Belt Sermon has an odd mix of punk and moody grandstanding, but it's as well-rounded as any hard-rock band in Madison right now.
