Austin’s home as the go-to destination for blues and blues rock was established sometime in the late ’60s and cemented in the ’80s, though as the city expands new blues acts are frequently overshadowed by rock or pop acts. Correcting that oversight is Ruthie Foster, whose dynamic work as a guitarist (a whiz at both acoustic and electric) and strong vocals make her difficult to ignore. She’s at home at venues like Antone’s, where her latest live CD/DVD was recorded. She also makes appearances at small venues, where she can communicate her skills as a player without having to drown out the wandering talk of the typical venue patrons and clanking beer bottles.
