Sallie Ford And The Sound Outside

Portland’s Sallie Ford And The Sound Outside may have just found themselves in the right place at the right time. Playing that bluesy blend of folk and rock that’s so popular these days—looking at you, Mumford And Sons—the group manages to blend old-timeyness with musicality in a way that’s both catchy and not grating at all. It’s earned the band some high-profile fans, including musical soulmates The Avett Brothers and fellow Portlandians The Decemberists. The band’s latest record, 2011's Dirty Radio, is a charming combination of mildly rockabilly vibes and Ford’s one of a kind voice, which sounds like it’s being projected through some huge console radio. It’s a little weird, but it’s endearing and entertaining all the same.
