Santigold
Santigold—known to friends and family as Santi White and Santogold to her fans before a complaint from a similarly named infomercial host—has garnered countless comparisons to M.I.A., but that’s only one of many sticking points for a sound that fans out far and wide. The Brooklynite musician collaborated with luminaries like GZA and Lily Allen for years in relative obscurity, then finally picked up some well-deserved notice for her self-titled 2008 album, which squirms to take stock of songs touched by languid reggae, gothy balladry, and snappy indie rock. After four years of perfectionist touches, Santigold has a brand-new follow-up, Master Of My Make Believe, which features guest vocals from Karen O on the hypnotic, bipolar single “Go!,” as well as production work from Switch, Diplo, and TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek.
